Charities For Sellers My MissionFish Help

About Us

MissionFish helps charities raise money on eBay. We enable eBay sellers to give some or all of their sale proceeds to their favourite charitable organisations and help charities become eBay sellers too - turning buying and selling on eBay into a new source of unrestricted income for charities. Since 2000 we've provided technology, tools and support to thousands of organisations and donors in the US, raising millions of dollars through online auctions.

In 2005 eBay invited us to build a programme that would offer their UK-based community members an opportunity to support charities while buying and selling on eBay. eBay for Charity not only allows sellers to do just that, but it also helps charities become sellers themselves. MissionFish is not only the dedicated solution provider for eBay for Charity but also a charity; we are a service of the
Points of Light Foundation (Registered Charity No. 1110538).

Our Name
We think that charitable organisations should be able to focus more on their missions and less on being able to support themselves. "Mission" is part of our name because we want everything we do to have a direct impact on the missions of charities.

We also think that the lack of unrestricted income keeps many charities from building infrastructure that is essential to their success. More than just helping to "teach a charity to fish," we believe that MissionFish can be a "Fishery" - producing unrestricted, consistent income for any charity, enabling them to do more for their causes and communities.

Our Mission
MissionFish is creating innovative technology-based solutions that help charities find new, efficient sources of unrestricted income.

We want to make it possible for any charity of any size to benefit in the best way they can from any donation given to them. To achieve that mission, we provide efficient, easy to use tools, and we work to change the way that buyers, sellers and charities alike think about charitable support.

Our History
We started MissionFish because our years of charity work led us to realise a few things:

  • Many people and companies support charities and have good items to donate.
  • Most charities can't use the things that both people and companies want to donate.

  • MissionFish started as an independent online auction site in 2000, tying our observations about charities and donated goods into a unique and pioneering fundraising process. In two and a half years our auction site turned thousands of donated items into hundreds of thousands of dollars for good causes.

In 2003 eBay invited us to provide our unique model for supporting good causes to their community of users in the US. Since eBay Giving Works launched in 2003, thousands of charities have signed up to participate, and millions of dollars in unrestricted income have been raised and distributed. MissionFish and eBay Giving Works have been featured in USAToday, The New York Times, CNN Headline News, Wired.com and Forbes magazine. In 2005 we received awards from the Yale/Goldman Sachs Foundation and the Social Enterprise Alliance for our unique social enterprise model.

In 2005 eBay once again invited us to build a programme that would offer their UK-based community members an opportunity to support charities while buying and selling on eBay. Charities can also sell their own goods on eBay, using the proceeds to support their work.
