eBay shoppers now have the option to donate to charity when they pay for an item
- 20 February 2009
- We recently launched a new fundraising product with eBay that enables microdonations to charities. This new functionality gives eBay buyers the option of donating a £1 to charity every time they pay for an item.
- We are always looking for new ways to help charities maximise online fundraising and the new ‘Give a Pound’ product is doing just that. In just one click an eBay buyer can choose to donate £1 to the featured charity. So far eBay.co.uk users have donated over £300,000 to UK charities through this new product.
- New charities are featured on a regular basis to eBay buyers. The aim is to reflect a wide range of causes and organisations that most effectively appeal to buyers. Experience to date suggests that the product will work best for charities that are able to attract “impulse donations”, having strong brands throughout the UK and self-explanatory names, especially if their fundraising focuses on a particular week or month and they can promote the feature to their supporter base.
- In order to feature a broad range of charities, we are keen to hear from you. If you think your organisation would meet these criteria get in touch and tell us what week/month you think would be particularly suitable and why.

"Besides the new funds raised through our eBay auction, the profile of the charity has been raised immeasurably through eBay for Charity. We're still riding the wave!" — Claire Newman, Development Office, Books Abroad
